...vision goes here...

(from Chris H's email)
What we've been thinking over here in terms of co-operation between our cities (and other cities once this model proves itself) is that we could each host a number of initial meetings locally to determine our vision -- structure, function, policies, etc. Once we begin to have a sense of direction, we could have a meeting or series of meetings involving both the Victoria and vancouver groups, so that we may harmonize our aims and create a set of universal policies / guidelines for the organization, and a mission statement.

From here we may proceed to hold individual meetings, and follow our own course, taking on projects as they fulfill our mission statement locally, thus giving us each the flexibility to take on local issues and unique challenges as they affect us, but each holding to the overall mission statement and code of policies, to maintain a certain standard of accountability.

I see this effectively creating a third-party regulatory body for Intentional Dance events on the west coast, and helping us redefine our movement outside of the media perceptions of "rave".

Directions for the Collective/Association/Coalition:

  • members can be individuals or organisations
  • to be a liaison to community, e.g. police, parents, cities, and venues
  • possibly to develop or cultivate new venues/relationships with venue owners/managers
  • promotion of harm reduction approaches
  • to create and foster positive media attention on the alternative/intentional dance scene
  • create policies that "members" agree to abide by and implement including such things as:
    • easy free, potable water at all events
    • adherence to firecode requirements
    • provision of harm reduction
